1. What this policy covers
This policy explains everything DeSpy stores in your web browser when you visit despy.app, why we store it, how long it stays, and how you can control or remove it. It sits alongside our Privacy Notice and our Terms; where this policy and the Privacy Notice overlap, the Privacy Notice governs how we handle personal data more broadly.
We have written this policy to match what the website actually does. If you inspect your browser’s storage while using despy.app, what you find will match the table in Section 3 and nothing else.
2. What cookies and local storage are
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to save and then send back on every future request, which is how many sites recognise you or follow you between pages and across other websites. Local storage is different: it is a small store that lives only inside your own browser on your own device, is not automatically attached to any network request, and is never sent to a server unless the site’s own code deliberately reads it and transmits it. DeSpy uses only local storage, uses it sparingly, and never transmits it. We set no cookies at all.
3. What DeSpy actually stores
DeSpy keeps exactly two keys in your browser’s local storage. There are no others.
| Key | Purpose | Category | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
despy_consent_v1 |
Records the privacy choice you made in the cookie banner: the policy version you agreed to, the timestamp of your decision, a Global Privacy Control flag, and your category choices (necessary: true, and functional: true or false). This is how the site remembers not to prompt you again and honours the choice you made. |
Strictly necessary | Persists on your device until you change or withdraw your choice, or until you clear your browser storage. Local storage has no fixed expiry date. |
The homepage “Join the privacy movement” box stores nothing in your browser. Submitting it is a deliberate step that sends your email address to our server to start a double-opt-in newsletter subscription — nothing is subscribed until you click the confirmation link we email you, the address is encrypted at rest, and every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe. The full detail is in the Privacy Notice, section 3.
4. No analytics cookies. No advertising cookies — ever.
- No analytics cookies or analytics storage. We do not run Google Analytics or any other analytics or measurement product. We do not count, profile, or fingerprint visitors.
- No advertising cookies — ever. We do not serve ads, we set no advertising or retargeting identifiers, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- No third-party scripts. Every page carries a Content-Security-Policy that permits scripts from our own origin only, so no third-party origin can load code — and therefore none can set storage of any kind. (Images and, on pages that embed them, the YouTube/Vimeo players are the only third-party content permitted; those players load only inside their sandboxed frames.) There is no device fingerprinting.
5. Global Privacy Control
DeSpy detects and honours the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser sends a GPC signal and you have not yet made a choice in our banner, the optional functional category defaults to off. Your GPC status is recorded in the despy_consent_v1 key described above so that we can show that the signal was respected. Because we do not sell or share personal data, there is nothing further to opt out of.
6. Consent and legal basis
despy_consent_v1is strictly necessary and is written when you make a choice in the banner. Because it stores only what is essential to remember and honour your own privacy decision, it is exempt from prior consent under the GDPR and the ePrivacy rules — it exists precisely to record your consent decision.- The optional functional category is currently empty — nothing is stored under it today, and nothing ever will be without asking you first. You can use the whole website without enabling it.
For the full picture of legal bases for any personal data we process on the server side — consent, contract, and legitimate interest — see the Privacy Notice.
7. How to control your storage
- Cookie Settings. Use the Cookie Settings link in the site footer, or reopen the banner, to change your category choices at any time. Turning the functional category off deletes
despy_beta_interestimmediately and updatesdespy_consent_v1to reflect your new choice. - Your browser’s own controls. Every major browser lets you view and clear site storage for despy.app (often under “Cookies and site data” or “Site settings”). Clearing storage for this site removes both keys. Because the keys live only on your device, clearing them there removes them completely.
- Withdrawing consent is always free and never penalised. The site works the same whether or not you enable the optional functional key.
Removing browser storage does not delete any beta application you may have submitted to our server. To exercise your data rights over server-side beta data, use the self-service removal form at https://despy.app/remove/ or email us at privacy@despy.app. See the Privacy Notice for the full rights and process.

9. Changes to this policy
If we materially change what we store or how we store it, we will update this policy, bump its version string, and — where the change affects your choices — re-prompt you through the banner. The version and review dates for this policy appear at the top of the page and are kept in step with the consent version recorded in despy_consent_v1.
